TECH 4 Norwin T. Stoppenhagen

Norwin T. "N.T." Stoppenhagen was born June 25, 1918 in Adams county to a Mr. and Mrs. Herman Stoppenhagen. He had one brother Wilbert Stoppenhagen who also served in World War II. Norwin would be drafted into the U.S. Army and achieved the rank of as a Technician 4. He would have training from Fort Sill,Oklahoma;Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Fort Benning, Georgia; and Camp Rucker, Alabama. Norwin would serve one year in Puerto Rico before being sent to the European theatre. Norwin died December 10, 1944 in Belgium. He was being sent to the front lines for an attack which would be the "Battle of the Bulge" six days later but was taken out because of medical issues with lymphatic leukemia. He was buried in Zion Lutheran cemetery in Adams County, Indiana. For his service, Norwin earned the WWII Victory Medal, European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal, and the American Campaign Medal.
